Based upon enrollment and location, the Roots and Branches School will be looking for qualified candidates to join our After School Program team for the 2023-24 school year.
Note that this position may be combined with the Enrichment Teacher position, based upon the needs of the school and teacher experience.
The After School Program will serve students from all grades (K-1 in 2023-24). We are looking for resourceful, responsible, creative individuals who will bring enthusiasm to creating/implementing engaging programming for our students. After School staff members are responsible for leading activities, games, and short classes for the students utilizing their own areas of interests and expertise, supporting other staff in their activities, as well as general supervision.
Qualified applicants should be passionate about working with children in a variety of educational and play settings, interested in leading creative projects and games for students, and co-creating a racially just and inclusive learning community. Candidates need to have a history of being reliable, responsible, and flexible.

Create/implement age appropriate activities that are engaging and relevant to the students interests
Supervise and ensure the safety of children at all times in various environments - classroom, snack time, outdoor exploration, etc. and address matters of safety using proactive, preventative measures
Engage with the children in games, activities, and play
Support rules of conduct while creating a warm and welcoming environment
Serve as a model of appropriate behavior to promote positive behaviors
Provide appropriate positive guidance and redirection to children
Track attendance and interaction between programs for students who participate in other after school activities while enrolled in this program
Assist with other classroom tasks, such as: signing children in/out of the program, preparing and serving simple snacks, classroom cleaning and organization, gathering and preparing materials
If possible: Supervise children on trips during our full day care on professional development days
Follow protocol in place for COVID mitigation strategies
Attend professional development for afterschool staff
Communicate with families and the director of the school
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, coworkers, administrators, and other school personnel.
Ability to remain professional and courteous while interacting with students, colleagues, & parents
Demonstrable history of being reliable, responsible, and flexible.
Strong organizational skills and patience
Preferred Education and Experience:
High School diploma is required; higher education within a related field is preferred.
Prior experience working with children
A love of working with children and a genuine commitment to education and after school programs
Lift or move materials up to 60 lbs.
Repetitively bend, stretch and stoop, work with children on the floor.
Work outdoors in a variety of weather.
Fully maintain sight and sound supervision of children
As a condition of employment, all employees of the school are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, unless they have an approved medical or religious exemption.
Optional: Full days when the school is closed for PD
1-2 additional hours/week for professional development and planning.
