Based upon enrollment, the Roots and Branches School may be looking for additional qualified K-1 teachers to join our team for the 2023-24 school year. Hiring will begin in March 2023, and applications are accepted any time.
At the Roots and Branches School, we seek passionate, experienced teachers who are committed to honoring students' voices, balancing structure and creativity, and implementing and adapting curriculum that supports students' ideas and discoveries. Our teachers commit to co-creating an affirming and inclusive learning community.
Teach the core subjects of literacy, reading skills, math, science, social studies, social-emotional skills, and social justice/identity development utilizing curriculum that supports students' inquiry, discussion, and discovery of ideas.
Create a caring, inviting, and accepting environment that welcomes students of diverse backgrounds and needs.
Support rules of behavior and community-building, and provide appropriate positive guidance and redirection to children.
Modify teaching and learning strategies, modalities, and goals to support students' individual needs, with the support of the director.
Provide feedback to students via formative and cumulative assessments.
Write narrative reports and participating in twice-yearly family-teacher conferences.
Collaborate with the grade-level team and co-plan lessons.
Communication and collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and families.
Attend some family events in the evenings and all mandatory professional development.
Supervision of students during drop-off, pick-up, lunch, recess, etc.
A successful candidate will have:
A minimum of 3-years experience teaching early elementary school.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with students, colleagues and parents.
Evidence of lessons or projects that demonstrate the teaching of creative and critical thinking skills.
Evidence of lessons or projects that demonstrate the teaching of social-emotional skills and social justice/identity development.
Highly developed writing and organizational skills.
A growth mindset, positive resolve, follow through, and the desire to build positive and meaningful relationships with students in a manner consistent with our curriculum and values.
Experience with typical classroom technology for education (interactive whiteboards, Google drive or similar, Microsoft Word or similar, student use of technology, etc.)
Certification, Education, and Experience:
A Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate for grades PK-4 is required.
A bachelor’s or master's degree in an educational field is required.
Candidates should have at least 3-years experience teaching in a diverse setting, and demonstrate a commitment to co-creating an affirming and inclusive learning community.
Intermittent or prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
